Backcountry Access (BCA) is excited to announce the recent addition of professional snowboarder Pat Moore to the BCA Ambassador Team. Moore, originally from Waterville Valley, NH, gained fame in the world of snowboarding as a longtime SuperPipe and Slopestyle competitor—capturing gold, silver, and bronze at X Games events over the course of his competitive career. He has since shifted gears away from competition. He now dedicates his time to backcountry riding, a discipline he became interested in after he experienced the offerings of Jackson Hole, Tahoe, and Whistler, B.C. while filming earlier in his career.
With his distinguished career and a massive list of accolades, it was a no-brainer to welcome one of snowboarding's legends to the BCA team. Backcountry Access co-founder Bruce Edgerly explains why BCA is excited to have Pat on the team, "Our roots are mainly in freeskiing. Having Pat on the BCA ambassador team will help us get more involved in backcountry snowboarding and spread avalanche awareness in the community."
"The backcountry is the natural progression for so many snowboarders, and through my experience, it's important to understand the risks that the terrain and elements provide," Moore says about the importance of avalanche education in the world of snowboarding. "Until you understand the hazards, you can't truly appreciate your exposure, and that's why I believe avalanche and mountain safety education are so important."
Another winning attribute Moore brings to the table for BCA is his nonprofit work, both with youth engagement initiatives and backcountry safety. "Pat is a great match for BCA because of his passion for youth education and snow safety. His Methodology and Risk Maturity programs are right up our alley," notes Edgerly.
Moore elaborates about his work, stating, "I help run the nonprofit and event series Methodology, which hosts grassroots events and helps raise funds for local initiatives throughout the tour to help kids get into snowboarding. I also assist with the Risk Maturity: Avalanche Awareness Class at Baldface Lodge led by John Buffery. The Risk Maturity Class is an annual gathering of professional snowboarders and filmmakers who learn and train backcountry safety under the instruction of Buff and the Baldface guides."
His passion for mentorship is a large component of what drives Moore. He looks forward to using his new relationship with BCA as a platform for fostering a deeper understanding of safety throughout the snowboarding world. He notes, "My goal of working with BCA is to help spread the knowledge of backcountry safety through our community of snowboarding as well as further my own education through the vast group of experts that work with the brand."
Damon Morris, the VP Outdoor for Elevate Outdoor Collective, BCA’s parent company, reiterates the excitement of having Moore on the team, exclaiming, “I’m thrilled to welcome Pat Moore to the BCA family. Having worked with Pat in previous roles, I can honestly say the gentleman is a true professional who brings a wealth of backcountry knowledge that will help bring BCA to the next level.”
