Learn the steps needed to perform an avalanche transceiver trailhead test and how to ensure everyone's beacons are working correctly before heading out on the trail. Your life depends on it. BCA has two new videos this season available on how to perform a Trailhead Transceiver Test for Skiers and Snowboarders and how to perform a Trailhead Transceiver Test for Snowmobilers.
BCAs new transceiver training videos are downloadable and useful for ski and snowmobile club meetings, backcountry educators, and/or to watch individually. The videos explain how to conduct a test of all your avalanche beacons functions, including a battery check, a search check, a transmit check, and a range check. The first three items (battery, search, and transmit) are something that you should check every time you go into avalanche terrain with a beacon, and the range check is something to do with each new group, or at the start of an extended trip.
AVALANCHE TRANSCEIVER TRAILHEAD TEST FOR SKIERS AND SNOWBOARDERS (VIDEO)
In this video, Andy Wenberg, guide ambassador Joey Thompson, and the BCA team show the steps to performing an avalanche transceiver trailhead test, and how to ensure everyone's beacons are working correctly before heading out on the trail.
BCAs Trailhead Transceiver Check videos demonstrate how you can quickly see that everyone knows how to turn their transceiver on, to toggle between search and transmit, and to stow their beacon. In an experienced group, it is often difficult for people to mention their lack of knowledge and these sort of activities can serve as a good review without pressuring anyone.
AVALANCHE TRANSCEIVER TRAILHEAD TEST FOR SNOWMOBILERS (VIDEO)
In this video, sled ambassador Mike Duffy and the BCA team shows the steps to perform an avalanche transceiver trailhead check with snowmobiles, and how to ensure everyone's beacons are working correctly before heading out on the trail.
