BCA Adds Instructional Graphics To Companion Shovel

Snowest.com
September 2006

BOULDER, CO - Snow safety equipment manufacturer Backcountry Access (BCA) has re-introduced its popular Companion Shovel with a larger scoop and with graphics illustrating how to perform an avalanche rescue.

Manufacturer of the best-selling Tracker DTS avalanche rescue transceiver, Backcountry Access also has an industry-leading education program, including more than 40 BCA Beacon Training Parks across North America, free to the public. The new Companion Shovel is part of the company’s expanding education program. “Buying a beacon, shovel and probe are only the first step,” BCA vice president Bruce Edgerly said. “The next step is learning how to use them.”

The Companion Shovel’s aluminum blade itself has been enlarged, now measuring 10x11 inches (25x30 cm). The front side features three diagrams: one illustrating how to do a beacon search, one illustrating how to probe and one illustrating the most efficient technique for excavating a victim. The shovel will continue to feature BCA’s innovative oval shaft and accommodates BCA’s optional Companion Probe.

The Companion Shovel is available at most western U.S. snowmobile dealerships. It sells for $89.95 with Companion Probe and $55 without probe.
