Field Tests: BCA Traverse EXT Shovel

Sledheads
October 2006

"Light" no longer means "plastic." In the never-ending quest to save precious ounces, pack a shovel that's strong enough to save a precious life. The oval shaft and 6000-series aluminum blade give BCA shovels the greatest strength-to-weight ratio in the backcountry--especially when used in conjunction with the integrated Companion Probe.

It cuts better, digs faster and is less likely to break.

BCA's stand-alone super strong and light extendable shovel features a super-strong oval shaft, T-grip and 6000-series aluminum blade with oval ferrule. Collasped length: 23.75 inches. Extended length: 30.5 inches. Weight: 21 oz. Extendable only, does not accomodate Companion Probe.

"The Traverse was so light-weight. When I first compared the BCA shovel to my old pack shovel I thought that it was going to be worthless, but I was wrong! The Traverse cut into avalanche--hard snow--better than my old larger one. Needless to say, I have a new pack shovel.

-Gerry Higgins

"Light and small. The handle needs to be larger for those people who have large hands. Small objects are hard to grip well."

-Carl Fife
Jerome, ID

"This shovel is very durable. You can almost chop trees down with it."

-Brett/Ritter
Kemmerer, WY
