2010 Arapahoe Basin Beacon Bowl
Posted on 09 February 2010
This past weekend Arapahoe Basin hosted the eighth annual Beacon Bowl. This is a great opportunity to raise backcountry awareness as participants can take advantage of beacon clinics, snowpit and avalanche dog demonstrations and of course the Beacon Bowl. With snowy skies lingering throughout the day, many took advantage of this chance to polish up their backcountry safety skills.
It was great to see so many people out practicing. There was a steady stream of visitors from newbie never before’s to search and rescue professionals. All proceeds from the day went to benefit Colorado’s kick ass, Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
After wrapping up the Beacon Bowl competition participants from the day moved into the lodge for some New Belgium IPA’s, a raffle, a silent auction and of course the awards ceremony.
Once the snow settled over $6,600 had been raised for the CAIC and Tracker2 stood on top of the podium in the professional division of the Beacon Bowl. A big thanks goes out to Leigh and Kimberly in Abasin’s marketing department, Leif B., Patrick O., Tony C. Ryan E., Bumpy and the entire Arapahoe Basin staff for hosting an excellent and educational day of backcountry awareness.
